2x Seasonal Dairy Farm Assistants

We require two team members to help in our large-scale dairy farming operation in Central Southland during the busy spring calving period (August-December 2019). Ideally, we are looking for two people (one on each farm) for at least three months, but the position could be extended for the right applicant.

We are our herd owning sharemilking operation that sharemilks on two properties. One farm is situated in Centre Bush, 8 minutes from Winton, where we milk 850 cows through a 60 bale rotary cowshed. The other farm is in Mabel Bush near Woodlands and about 20 minutes from Invercargill, where we milk 700 cows through a twin pit herringbone cowshed with 65 sets of cups total.

The ideal applicant for this position is someone who has been around animals before, and perhaps even milked cows in New Zealand, the more experience the better! Some understanding of animal husbandry and an interest in milk production in a seasonal New Zealand system will be an advantage. They will be hard working and not afraid to get their hands dirty, with spring time being a busy time of year with all of our cows calving over a 10 week timeframe. You will need to have an affinity for South American cultures as many of our team members are from this part of the world.

Duties will include: milking the cows morning (4.30am start) and night (we are normally at home by 6.30pm at the latest), collecting newly born calves from the paddock, feeding cows on fodderbeet crops as well as pasture and silage, animal husbandry including helping to treat animals who need some extra TLC and giving them their allocated mineral rations each day, helping out in the calf sheds with feeding and caring for all our newborn calves, general farm duties including helping to keep the farm tidy and generally working with the rest of our team to achieve our goals together.

Roster and days off to be determined and will be somewhat flexible. Hours offered will normally be between 40-60 hours per week.

We need workers to help pick avocados starting about 25th May, and then more jobs about July 2019 for 4-6 weeks. The work is 8 hours per day 5 days each week. It is weather dependent.

No experience necessary but you MUST speak good english. You need to be strong and fit (no back problems) and cannot be allergic to insect bites or afraid of insects. You need an IRD number and current work VISA. You will be climbing trees working and ground picking. We need some tall people and pay rates will vary depending on the job you are doing.

You are required to stay at the Pukenui Holiday Park located in Pukenui (in the very Far North). Accommodation is in shared cabins $17 per person per night or $14 per night if you sleep in your van.Pukenui is a small country town with local shops (a supermarket liquor store takeaways) on the Houhora Harbour 45 minutes drive north of Kaitaia. You will be living in the country no night clubs shopping malls or picture theatre so if you need a daily capachino this is not the job for you!! There are great beaches and walks. An ideal opportunity to earn and save.

Own transport is preferred. Transport to the orchards is by car pooling so you help with the cost of fuel if you dont have a vehicle.
