Merge Café has welcomed and supported people from all walks of life, bringing them together to share a meal and engage in conversation. It has played a crucial role in supporting Auckland’s homeless wh?nau, breaking down societal barriers and offering a warm, safe and supportive space where anyone is welcome.
We have an opportunity available for a reliable, experienced and certified kitchen hand who can work under pressure. This role reports to the Front of House Service Manager and supports our Chef and the Front of House team. This role is full-time, 6.30am to 3pm at 40 hours per week.
Flexibility is required to work additional paid hours to support the occasional event, evenings and provide weekend work cover if required.
What you will be responsible for:
Food Preparation – Assist the Chef in the preparation and cooking of food
Kitchen Environment – Manages waste and linen and follows cleaning regimes and rosters
Kitchen Supplies – Control incoming goods and storage, correct labelling of foods, maintain and rotate supplies and report orders to the Chef
Cleaning – includes utensils, dishes, tools or areas, food preparation equipment, floors, spillages, work station and work environment
What you’ll bring to the role is:
At least 2 to 3 years’ experience working in a busy kitchen environment
Level 1 National Certificate in Hospitality (Foundation Skills, Entry Skills, Introductory Cookery)
Current Food Safety Certificate
Adheres to high personal appearance and food and hygiene standards and regulations
Sufficient mobility and physical strength to be able to move and lift equipment and operate household equipment for substantial periods of time
Customer oriented, welcoming and friendly and respectful in attitude and behaviour to customers and colleagues
Follows instructions and is willing to perform other duties to ensure the efficient running of the Café
Keen to learn and develop new skills and professional knowledge including learning new cooking methods, recipes and menus.
