Cafe/Bar Assistant

Our company is dedicated to the operation of a top-quality service through our fleet of vessels on the Hauraki Gulf, transporting passengers, cars and freight to Waiheke and Great Barrier Islands, as well as a commuter service from Pine Harbour.

We are currently recruiting to expand our existing team onboard each of our five vehicle ferrys. Working primarily as a Café/Bar Assistant you will also be required to assist the Deckhands with operational and safety duties on each sailing.

This truly is a hospitality role with a difference where you will be a key part of the experience.

This role can be demanding and challenging but it's extremely rewarding. We need to work to strict time frames to ensure our service runs on time, every time and you will be an important part of this process.

You will be on a rolling roster for a minimum of 40 hours per week, alternating three days on and three days off. Flexibility is a must as shifts vary in duration depending on the day of the week and early starts are required.

Previous sea experience is a bonus, but not essential.

Key responsibilities include:

providing exceptional customer service
following strict guidelines in food service
providing a welcoming and efficient service
knowing and maintaining your product; and
assisting the deckhands in addition to café responsibilities.
In addition to having your own reliable transport and a full drivers' license, you will need to have the following skills, knowledge and qualities to be successful in the role:

Previous experience in a café retail environment
Understanding the principals of the safe sale and supply of alcohol
Local knowledge of visitor attractions
Cash handling and POS experience
A demonstrated ability to work under pressure
Able to easily adapt to changing work conditions
Ability to resolve queries with initiative, energy and a positive attitude whilst working as a productive team member.

We run our lessons during daylight hours Monday to Sunday. Surf and snorkel lessons are both scheduled and on demand, so we are constantly on our toes and super flexible.

– Surf coaching experience with valid certification
– a current first aid certificate
– an awesome grasp of English
– excellent communication skills for all ages and can relate to a wide range of people
